I found the early portions of BoTW, after the tutorial area, to be on-par w/ DS when it comes to difficulty.Īlso the parrying system is very similar, down to even the time windows and the way it leaves the enemy vulnerable after a perfect parry.

BoTW takes some inspiration from Dark Souls imo, like after the tutorial area the game does little hand-holding, and similar to Dark Souls, they let you get molliwopped by stronger enemies and simply learn by trial and error, w/ the entire world open for your to run around in. the dark souls series just allowed me to stop depending on map markers and gave me a newfound sense of curiosity of exploring every nook and crannie, and BoTW greatly rewards that, and is even centered around such gameplay. I actually really found enjoyment in Zelda Breath of the Wild after beating the Dark Souls series, despite not being able to enjoy it in the beginning and quitting it very early on.
